President’s
Message

 Dear
Artists and Friends,

Everyone
thinking “green” for the next show?  Intake for
Imagine
Green
is Monday May 20 and
Tuesday May 21, so begin preparing your work for this exhibition,
which will be juried by Nancy Bredbeck (artist and instructor at the
Newport Art Museum).

On
June 1, the Guild’s Board of Directors and committee members will be
participating in a retreat to begin planning for the months ahead.
What is our future? How can we support our arts community more
effectively?  How can we reach out to the non-artist?  These
are some of the questions we will be considering.  Do you have
your own questions you’d like us to consider? As a member, we value
your voice and opinions.  Please send me an email at info@portsmoutharts.org
with your question/suggestion.  I look forward to hearing from
you!

While
April’s vote by Portsmouth Town Council to delay any decisions
regarding the Arts Center project until October 2013, I believe we
can utilize this time to build our organization, increasing
membership and community offerings. To that point, our Education
Committee has worked hard over the last few months to put in place a
full line up of summer programming for youth at the Guild (see full
list of programming below).  In addition, we have applied for a
grant to support a Fall Performing Arts program at the Guild.
Let’s continue to consider the Guild’s original mission: an
arts organization that supports and explores all facets of the arts!

Have
a wonderful weekend,

Madeline
Ruiz, President

We are in need of a used iPhone (currently
not serviced) for gallery sitters to be able to process sales via
“Square”, a mobile phone application. We are looking for one
of the following models:
iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4
or iPhone 4S

In December, the
Guild started to use Square to process credit card purchases at our
Gallery, but we are currently using personal iPhones and are in need
of having a more permanent set up.

If you have
upgraded your iPhone you may have just what we need not being used and
would greatly appreciate you considering donating your old iPhone to
the Portsmouth Arts Guild.  We can help you remove all your
personal information from the iPhone.

Please contact JR Lynch at:   jrlynch@cox.net
or
401 683 8229  if would like to
do this or would like to discuss.

Message from
the President

Dear Members
and Friends,

Well it feels that Spring has finally arrived!
All of our plein air artists must be antsy to begin working
outside this time of year.  Thank you to all who contributed
work to our latest Members’ show.  What a fantastic
exhibition!

A sincere
welcome is extended to new PAG Board member, Erin Young.  Erin’s
experience in music performance administration will be an asset to
the Guild as we continue to strive to expand our arts offerings to
members and the public. We all look forward to working with you,
Erin!

The Guild’s
Fundraiser Committee, chaired by Jennifer Sunderland, has secured a
date and location for our 10th Anniversary fundraiser event:
Saturday, September 14.  Be sure to mark you calendar as
this is an event that is not to be missed.  Tickets will go on
sale for the event in June.  Food, drinks, entertainment and a
silent auction will be a part of the evening’s festivities.

Thanks to the
Education Committee, we have not just a 2-week summer art camp for
youth this year, but classes for kids and young adults throughout the
summer.  We will host an “early registration” event on
May 11 and 12 where families can receive a 10% discount on classes by
registering early.  More details on this event in a subsequent
email.

Sales are
picking up at the Guild!  Listed below are a list of artists who
have sold at the Guild over the past month.  Be sure not to miss
the opportunity of the Guild’s increased exposure and activity–our
browse bin (with works under $100) needs to be filled.  Many of
our patrons come in looking to purchase smaller, more affordable
works. Let’s offer them something they can take home and tell their
friends about.

Lastly, be sure
to check PAG emails often for updates on upcoming events, classes and
announcements.

Enjoy the great
weather and I look forward to seeing you at the Guild!

Sincerely,

Madeline Ruiz,
President
